About the Sarah Bailey Center

The Sarah Bailey Girl Scout Center serves as one of the central gathering and meeting spaces for Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia in Middle Georgia. Located in Lizella, the center honors Sarah Randolph Bailey, a pioneering educator, civic leader, and Girl Scout trailblazer from Macon, Georgia.

Sarah Bailey played a significant role in expanding opportunities for African American girls in Girl Scouting during a time when Black troops were not yet formally recognized in Georgia. Beginning in the 1930s, she organized “Girl Reserve” groups that eventually led to the formation of some of the first officially recognized Black Girl Scout troops in the state. Her leadership and dedication to girls earned her the Girl Scouts’ highest adult honor, the Thanks Badge, and her legacy continues throughout Girl Scouting in Georgia today.

Today, the Sarah Bailey Girl Scout Center offers flexible rental opportunities for community organizations, outreach initiatives, corporate meetings, trainings, networking events, and other business-related gatherings. Guests may utilize one of two meeting spaces, including an intimate boardroom that seats up to 12 individuals or a larger conference center designed for larger groups and presentations. The center’s beautiful atrium space also provides a welcoming setting for mixers, receptions, and community engagement events.
